Switzerland designates Matthias Scherer to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators

We are pleased to report that LALIVE partner Matthias Scherer has been designated by Switzerland to the ICSID Panel of Arbitrators. The designation is for a period of six years.

ICSID is the leading institution for the settlement of investment disputes between States and nationals of other States. Each State party to the ICSID Convention can designate four arbitrators and four conciliators. ICSID appoints arbitrators from the Panel of Arbitrators when the parties do not agree or fail to make an appointment. ICSID also appoints all members of ICSID ad hoc Committees from that panel.

Matthias Scherer joins two other LALIVE partners who have been appointed by States to ICSID panels: Veijo Heiskanen (Finland, Arbitrator) and Joachim Knoll (Germany, Conciliator). We are honoured by these designations. They are a testimony to our partners’ expertise and experience in investment treaty arbitration, one of the firm’s key practice areas ever since the ICSID Convention took effect.
