LALIVE partner elected to lead Geneva Bar Association

We are delighted to announce that partner Sandrine Giroud has been elected President of the Geneva Bar Association (Bâtonnière de l’Ordre des avocats de Genève) by the Bar’s general assembly on 30 April. Sandrine’s appointment is effective immediately and runs for two years. She is the second woman ever to chair the association in its long history.

Founded in 1895, the Geneva Bar Association is a non-profit association which represents and defends the interests of the legal profession in Geneva, Switzerland and abroad. The Bar Association brings together around 2,200 members, spread across nearly 500 firms. Its executive body, the Bar Council (Conseil de l’Ordre), has 12 members, including 9 elected lawyers.

Sandrine Giroud, who specialises in international and domestic litigation, has been an active member of the Geneva Bar for many years. She was appointed President of its Human Rights Committee in 2014, elected as a member of the Bar Council in 2019 and as Vice-President of the Association in 2022.

Sandrine Giroud commented: “It is an honour to have been elected as President of the Geneva Bar Association, an organisation which stands for the protection of lawyers and their mission and for the rule of law. My priority is to continue helping our members successfully navigate the multi-faceted challenges that we face, including the ever-changing regulatory landscape, the adoption of new technology by our clients and our own firms, and the increasingly competitive legal market. I am also eager to further the cause of greater diversity amongst our members and the wider Swiss legal market.”
