LALIVE recruits Thomas Brown as first-ever CEO to drive future growth

Thomas Brown brings over 30-years’ legal sector experience, including as regional Managing Partner at a leading international law firm

LALIVE has recruited Thomas Brown as its first-ever CEO, effective 1 January 2020. In his role, Thomas will work closely with the firm’s management committee and partners to drive the firm’s continued growth in its key areas and jurisdictions, particularly in its Zurich and London offices.

The firm has experienced significant growth, especially over the past 10 years, evolving to a firm with 20 partners and over 130 employees located in Geneva, Zurich and London.

Thomas brings considerable law firm management expertise and leadership experience to LALIVE, having performed several management roles during a 30-year career with Allen & Overy. Thomas served as Managing Partner of the Tokyo and Hong Kong offices in the last 15 years of his career and, in the last eight years, managed Allen & Overy’s entire Asia Pacific practice, playing a key role in driving the firm’s growth in the region. In addition to these management roles, Thomas practised as a projects and finance lawyer. In 2015, he became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), following which he spent a year with LALIVE, working in the firm’s international arbitration practice.

Domitille Baizeau, LALIVE Co-Managing Partner, comments:

As our firm continues to grow in its core practice areas and geographies, it is invaluable to have a dedicated person of Thomas’ experience to pursue our strategy, drive the business, and help further modernise our client services delivery. We are delighted to welcome Thomas to the team at what is an exciting time for the firm.”

Thomas Brown adds:

Having previously spent a year at LALIVE and learnt about their practice, I can’t think of a more perfect place for me to be. Its strategy of being one of the world’s pre-eminent disputes practices is clear and I am looking forward to bringing my international law firm management experience to help the firm achieve its full potential.

Thomas holds a BA in Law from Cambridge University (1986). He was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 1989 and as a solicitor of Hong Kong in 1996.
