LALIVE extends its pro bono offering through its partnership with A4ID

LALIVE, an international and independent law firm based in Switzerland has recently joined A4ID in its mission to help fight world poverty through the provision of pro bono legal advice to international non-governmental organisations, focusing primarily on Swiss law issues.

Since the inception of this partnership, LALIVE has guided the World Bank through a wide number of areas of Swiss law as part of its preparation of the 2015 World Bank Report and provided pro bono legal advice to an international non-governmental organisation which responds to natural disasters and crises, with respect to insolvency issues raised by its Swiss entity.

Through its involvement with A4ID, LALIVE continues its long tradition of active involvement in the community and using its legal expertise for the benefit of those in need. The firm also fosters initiatives designed to promote legal education and enforcement.

A4ID’s CEO Yasmin Batliwala said:

They have already made a great start by providing legal advice to the World Bank as well as advised on the personal liability of the Board of Trustees on the procedural steps and measures which must be taken by the directors in the event an entity falls into difficulty. Such advice is vital to keep businesses going and ensure the livelihood of communities.”

A4ID empowers lawyers to use their skills towards sustainable development through its international pro bono broker service. It engages with partners to lead thinking and changes to practice on issues such as business and human rights, and the rule of law in the upcoming Sustainable Development Goals.

It currently has over 50,000 lawyers in its global network through partnerships with law firms, corporate legal teams and barristers’ chambers, projects have impacted on over 114 countries.  A4ID’s weekly pro bono opportunities include small pieces of advice to large multi-jurisdictional projects. It also runs an annual training programme and evening seminars on the intersection of law and international development.
